Disappearing line on layout

Featured Replies

I am baffled by this. I place a vertical line, solid colour 3 pixels wide on my layout at the right hand side, almost full height of the visible screen. In Browse mode it is invisible. It is definitely on the top layer and there are no portals or other objects near to it. I now move the line 20 or 30 pixels at a time to the left when it reaches about 400 pixels from the left side it becomes visible. From now there is no problem, I can put it back to the right side of the screen and it is still visible. This behaviour is repeatable on this layout but it does not occur on others (I haven't checked them all). I assumed there was some sort of corruption of the layout so I made a new blank layout and copy and pasted all the layout elements to the new layout. The problem is still there.

Has anybody experienced similar behaviour?

This is not a major priority as I simply replaced the line by a thin box and there is no problem with that.

So I have made a new empty file and copy-pasted the layout into it. In layout mode you will see two vertical orange lines at the left. In browse mode, at least on my machine, there is only one.

Hi Jim,

Rather than corruption of the layout itself, it is rather more probable that 'spooky happenings' such as you were experiencing result from interference of a corrupt *object* on the layout.

When you copied and pasted all the contents of the spooky layout to the new layout, chances are that you brought whatever was causing the problem across at that point. B)

So it must still be there in my original layout since the only thing I removed was the disappearing line. Perhaps it would be prudent to do the whole layout again.

I've found out what the problem is. If I have a thick enough vertical line, 3pixels or more, than looking at the layout in maximum zoom it seems as if I can slide it up behind the toolbar, menu, whatever is at the top of the screen by at least 1 pixel. That makes the line disappear in browse mode. With a 2 or 1 pixel line it's not possible to do this sliding up by enough to make it invisible.
