Validating container field by file size?

I have an application where users are able to import photos into container fields. To keep overall file size down, I want to be able to validate these fields either by the size of the file being inserted (i.e. <1MB) or by the resolution of the image being inserted (i.e. 640 x 480 only).

Any way to do this?
