I was wondering if I could install server 7 on an xp laptop and used it as a server for testing purposes.

hi,

xp is not certified to run server 7, but it can work for 'testing' purposes.

Thanks. I set it up on a laptop. I can see the remote files when I open up FM7 on the laptop but I can't see them from any other computer. Anny suggestions.

Make sure you're hosting over TCP/IP, and that the files are set as visible (which seems to be happening). Set the server for remote administration, and try the Admin tool from another machine. Can users see the server at all via FileMaker sharing?

hi,

xp has a firewall installed by default. if you have this enabled, or any other firewall application enabled, make sure you open port 5003. that should do the trick.
