Newbies aburroughs Posted February 20, 2001 Newbies Posted February 20, 2001 I need help finding duplicate name records in a contact database. I can find like first or last names, but I need to find all records that have the same first AND last names. I have tried many find combinations...does this require a script? Really what I would like to do is reconcile two databases and combine the records of the same name. I thought this used to be possible.
john.daly Posted February 20, 2001 Posted February 20, 2001 Try using the script given as an example on page 10-13 of the User Guide. Set up a calculated Unique Identification field to combine the First and Last name fields: Unique ID Field = First Name & Last Name Hope this helps.
Newbies aburroughs Posted February 22, 2001 Author Newbies Posted February 22, 2001 Yes, of course - I remember this now - and have used it in the past. Thanks. Can someone tell me how Filemaker handles reconciliation (synching) of two similar contact type databases? I seem to remember that we had a server copy at one time and it handled this well.
Newbies aburroughs Posted February 22, 2001 Author Newbies Posted February 22, 2001 Foot note to your suggested fix. Need to make sure that result of calculation is set to 'text' not the default of 'number' and that the field is indexed - then all works nicely!
