September 8, 200520 yr Newbies I've set up a relational database set (invoices + line items). However, when I delete a master invoice record, the related line items records will NOT delete. Yes, I do have 'delete related records' checked off under the relationship settings window. And 'allow deletion of related records' in the portal itself too. I've done several complex relational systems and this is a very basic function. In fact if I start a new example from scratch it works... but my existing solution appears to not work for some reason. Any help or hints at weird hangups, appreciated? thanks. Edited September 8, 200520 yr by Guest
September 8, 200520 yr Can you delete the records manually if you go to the line items file and delete them from a layout there? Do you have multiple passwords (privilege sets) defined? You could be using a different password from one file that's giving you lesser privileges in the line items file. Is the file locked by the OS, or are the OS file permissions incorrect?
September 8, 200520 yr Author Newbies Yes, I can delete the line items records manually within their db. Also, I can delete them line by line in their portal within invoices. But when I delete the entire invoice record, the related line items remain. I have no passwords on the db set. I have only 1 user account on this Mac, no password. thanks, so far.

September 12, 200520 yr Author Newbies Good idea. I was stripping down the files to post and started messing around more... ie: is bug caused by some other field calc, script or other relationship (5 dbs in set). Nothing helped even when the 2 relational dbs were stripped to only themselves and the bare bones fields necessary. I put in buttons that would 'go to related record' which worked fine and confirmed the records were indeed related. Still would not delete related records when master record was deleted. Then I tried deleting the relationship, and re-establishing it identically. It worked! I went back to the fully loaded set and it worked there too. Glad the bug is gone but question remains, how could the relationship become corrupt? Any insight would be reassuring. Is there a reasonable limit to number of records allowable in FMP? I have over 40,000 records in the line_items db. Thank you.
September 13, 200520 yr I've had files with >300,000 records w/o problems. The only hard limit in v6 and lower is the file size of 2GB. If you go over that, you're in trouble.
