jbullydawg Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 I am working in Filemaker 7 and wish to duplicate a table so I don't have to re-enter all of the fields again. I saw where FM 8 can do that but in the trial version I downloaded it makes a copy in the relationships view but doesn't actually create a new table. Each semester we will need a new table to house contract info for instructors. I need to create a new table each semester for separation purposes and it's going to be a pain if I have to recreate it every time. Any thoughts?
Ender Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 It's a poor design if you find yourself creating a new table for each semester. Not only is this a hastle to deal with each semester, it creates other problems when it comes time to do finds and reports. Instead add a Semester field to the existing table, and use that to distingush between them.
Matt Klein Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 I agree with Ender. You shouldn't need to create a separate table for each semester. That aside, FileMaker Pro 8 Advanced allows you to copy and paste tables from file to file or in the same file. FileMaker Pro 8 doesn't allow for this, just Advanced. If you want to stay working in FM Pro 7, you can use FMRobot from New Millennium(www.newmillennium.com) to copy tables.
