Set FM 8 GUI language on MacOS

Setting the FM language under MacOS X has been weird in FP 7- FP would use the MacOS language unless you removed this language explicitly via the Info panel (open Info panel on FileMaker Developer.app, open "languages" section, un-check MacOS language, leave only English checked if English is the language you wanted to use).

However, in FM 8/Tiger even this does not work anymore because you cannot un-check the MacOS language, it is [color:gray]greyed out. So what do you do if you have a German MacOS but want to develop FM solutions in English?

As it turns out, it is rather easy:

  • Close FM 8 if ot is running
  • Navigate to Applications folder/FileMaker Pro Advanced folder, select "FileMaker Pro Advanced.app", right-click and select "Show Package Contents"
  • Drag all language resources (folders
  • FM takes (grudgingly, I suppose) the remaining language as its GUI language

Hmm... seems someone at FM, Inc. loses contact to his MacOS-based developers. Why not just add a preference setting for language, just as they did for the Win version?
