Another month has passed and things have been more hectic than ever around the kennel known as FMPug HQ. The registrations for the '4 Chances to "Advance" Your Development' closed with a flourish on the last day of September, with many of you putting your name in the mix. It was encouraging to see so many people taking the time to tell us why they felt they should receive a free copy of FileMaker 8 Advanced. In fact, some of the responses were so good we just felt we had to share.

A small collection of our favorite reasons are listed below for your reading pleasure (we kept it anonymous to protect all parties concerned!);

* "My office life is horrendous, my marriage life is daunting and I'm confident the only thing to get me on the road to recovery and straiten my life out is a free FMP8 Advanced. Oh and did I tell you about my time with the psychologist? Well,..."

* " I would of course bark like a happy dog and would no longer drool on the sofa anytime FM8 Advanced is mentioned should I win which would make my wife happy as well."

* "Convert stubborn Access adherents from our district PTA who need to see the simplicity and benefits in managing their large names databases"

* " Because mine is lonely. Everyone should have a mate. Even software."

* "I will use my copy of FileMaker Pro 8 Advanced to reduce global warming.

It solves so many of the little annoyances I have had with FileMaker for years I won't be overheating nearly as often as without it.

Save the ice caps - Advance me right away!"

As to the winners, they will be announced later in this newsletter.

RSVP - It really does help

To aid us in getting RSVP's we have installed some new security. Trust me, he is ferocious...so please help us out by filling in this short form. It really does help the local coordinators plan.

If you are a member, sign in and use the form on your homepage. If you are a first time visitor you can find the RSVP form at this address, http://www.fmpug.com/rsvp.php

*** FMPug gets a performance boost

If you have visited the FMPug.com web site lately you may have noticed a considerable speed increase on some of the pages. The code has been optimized, the queries sanitized and the overall performance ...electrified!

We invite you to stop by and check out the improvements.

*** Take the Synergy Series survey

We are pleased to announce a survey for the Lance Hallberg Synergy Series™ of classes on PHP is now available on the FMPug web site.

If you are interested in learning PHP for use with FileMaker Pro or extending your PHP knowledge, please take this short survey so we can determine what you are looking to learn from PHP and your preferred location choices. Simply visit http://www.fmpug.com and use the link on the home page to take the survey.

Lance is most recently noted for his 2 presentations on PHP at this years FileMaker Developer Conference. The air was electric as Lance showcased using FileMaker & PHP as a Content Management System. Here are a few quotes by attendees of the sessions:

* You had me at PHP. I'm totally convinced to use PHP now instead of XSLT.

* Enthusiastic speaker. Makes you want to jump into PHP.

* PHP has arrived.

* Lance would do an excellent job conducting a class on the subject. Best session(s) I've attended.

* He is electric.

*** FileMaker Training

FMPug is adding a new section to its web site. We are creating an area for any training company offering FileMaker Pro related training to list their courses and schedules. This will allow our visitors to browse by month and find a course that suits them.

Obviously, this being FMPug we do have some extras for our paid membership. If a company offer discounts to FMPug members these will clearly be visible with a "save" tag next to the class. Any discount will be marked in the course description.

*** And the winners are..

And so, without further ado ...I would like to present the winners of our '4 Chances To "Advance" Your Development' competition. The prize, a copy of FileMaker Pro 8 Advanced to each of the four lucky people.

The software was donated by FileMaker Inc (http://www.filmaker.com) and I would personally like to thank Mike Alvarado for sourcing these for us.

In no particular order, the winners of a copy of FileMaker Pro 8 Advanced are..
