deego55 Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 We have about 50 databases hosted on Filemaker Server. I would like to allow someone outside of our group to access one of them, and only allow him access to view that one database, not all the others. I know i can password protect the others, but is it possible so that he does not even see them? Or can i create another connection to the server that just hosts that one file?
Steven H. Blackwell Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Yes this is completely possible. First give the outsider his own distinctive Account Name and password in the file you wish him or her to see and access. Be sure that Account is not in ANY of the other files. You can authenicate the user by either FileMaker Pro or by External Server Authentication. Then in the SAT Tool enable the option for Database Visibility such that users see only those files for which they have credentials. More details on this process can be found in the tech Briefs on the FMI web site at: www.filemaker.com/support/upgrade/techbriefs.html or in FIleMaker Security: The Book at this site: www.filemakersecurity.com Steven
