Renee B Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 Hi all- I just posted the other day about running my runtime file off the CD while installing the other files onto the users hard drive. I now realize that this will not work. I was thinking about doing it this way, but I am not really familiar with the ins and outs of Windows 2000 (typically use FM w/OS X): Install the files onto the users hard drive, but leave a file (probably text) on the CD that is to be opened when the runtime file is started. Can this work? Can I hard code a path with Windows 2000 to open that file? I am going to use Hexalock CD-Rs so if they copy that text file to their desktop, it won't work right and also, it won't look to the hard drive anyway. If this is not possible, has anyone dealt with anti-piracy before running off a cd? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! -Renee
Oldfogey Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 The short answer is 'Yes' - sort of. It's a function of FMP, not Windoze. Check out help on 'File Reference' but this only applies to FMP files so the file on your CD would have to be FMP. How is the text file used? If it is just a user reference and not used by FMP processing, you could look at a Container field with a Link to the text file.
