Files Becoming Read-Only

Does anyone know what would cause db files to become read-only when deployed on FM Server 7? If the server service is deactivated and we localhost the files, they remain modifiable. This has forced us to sideline FM Server until we can figure the problem out.

Incidentals, everything is correct w/network sharing and folder permissions. Environment is XP Pro.

Thanks!

This could be a problem with Windows XP, and that's one of many many reasons I recommend using a server OS.

It could also be that someone played with the Access Control Lists; don't use them for FileMaker Server.

Also, check the files by right clicking on them just to be sure thay are not set as read-only.

everything is correct w/network sharing and folder permissions.

This is a troubling sentence as it implies the files are being shared by the OS networking capabilities. That will result in problems. There should be no sharing of this type on FM Server.

Would an upgrade from FMP7 to FMP8 cause FMP7 databases to become read-only? We did an upgrade yesterday to our server and this seems to have happened and we're not sure why.

Please see comments in other thread. But miscopying can cause this to occur.
