drb Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Hi all, I am just in learning the ABC's of FM. I created 3 tables with a fp7 file. I will slowly connect each table later. I am stuck with a little thing right now. 1. How do I calculate the number of letters in a text /field and show that in a separate field? It is variable with each record. 2. Is it possible to have a all word docs, graphics in one table and relate that each record. If so, please let me know how to do it. 3. Is it possible to open the graphic or word with a record / browse mode? Thanks, drb
stanley Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 DRB: Welcome to the Forums. To get the length of a field, create another field, set it to be a calculation field, and set that to: Length(YourTextField) (Where "YourTextField" is the name of the field you want to find the length of.) I'm not sure exactly what you mean by your other two questions. Question 2 sounds like you are asking about the separation model - that's a topic that has been covered a lot here, and you can search for it to see what's been said. -Stanley
drb Posted October 26, 2005 Author Posted October 26, 2005 Thanks Stanley, Please allow me to elaborate on those 2 questions. What I am wishing for is: To have several word docs, txts, graphics etc in a folder and a table connects to all those files. Probably, each file will have a unique or some unique ID (serial number). And on my another table, i should be able to click on a button and pull up a related doc from the above table. Is that possible? And as far as third q goes, is there anyway, graphics can be automatically displayed along with the record pulled from the first table I mentioned above? Also, please give me some pointers in the forum to start with. thanks a bunch, drb
