Windows FMP Server Authenticate From OS X Server?

Featured Replies

Win 2003 FMSA 8 Authentication Via Tiger Server Odap Accounts

Filemaker told me this was impossible because Tiger Server's LDAP/Odap is broken.

Is this true?

Has anyone tried?

Well Tiger generally is dysfunctional when it comes to Active Directory authentication and FileMaker Server 8.

A server running Tiger Server or plain Tiger that is part of an AD domain and that is hosting FileMaker Server 8 cannot use External Server Authentication for Active Directory accounts. Use OS 10.3.9 instead.

Now, Kodama, what you appear to be saying is that you think that it's broken the other way around as well. Namely that a server running Windows Server 2003 with FIleMaker Server won't authenticate a client running Tiger and FMP. Is that correct? Did I understand your post correctly?

Yep, I have FMP on a fast PC.

We are looking at (for many reasons) repurposing a G4 XServe as a PDC and were interested in having the FMP server authenticate off the Xserve.

Filemaker said "No way". Supposedly 2 macs would work, but a Pc authenticating off the Mac won't.

Generally these cross-platform authentications between server can be a problem, due largely to the way that each directory service interprets what the other is sending.

If FMI told you Windows Server 2003 won't authenticate against Open Directory, then I'd go with that absent any other information. An OS X Server running FileMaker Server trying (in 10.4) to authenticate against Active Directory will not work; that's a known issue. I am not aware that the reverse of this--what you're reporting--is also the case.
