vinnymac Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 I have a critical problem and looking for help. I went to load in a database I use almost everyday (project management) and today it asks me for a password. I have never set a password, at least not consciously. Thinking perhaps that I might have been sleep working, I tried every password I have ever used. I opened other databases and they use "Admin" and blank. I tried that. No worky. I tried logging on as a guest. Even tried "Please Open!" I'm assuming the file got corrupted somehow, which is possible I guess. So I tried to recover the data. It crashes FM but leaves a "recovered" file. That one says its damaged and can't be opened, use recover, etc. So I tried to recover the recovered and it says the "access privileges in this file have been damaged or possibly tampered with." Duh! Nobody uses this computer but me, all alone in my home office, so I can rule out the tampering business. Okay, that's a long story. But any idea how I can: (1) open the file (2) recover the data, or (3) accept the fact that all my hard work is gone. (I do have a back up about a month old, but I sure would not to lose a month's worth of work.) Thanks! FM7 running on MacOX Tiger. Never a problem until today.
Ender Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Try "Admin" as the account, with a blank password. This is the default for new files in FM7/8.
vinnymac Posted November 1, 2005 Author Posted November 1, 2005 I tried that a few (dozen) times. Nothing I try works.
vinnymac Posted November 22, 2005 Author Posted November 22, 2005 As a followup—I have tried unsuccessfully for three weeks to solve this problem. I have come to accept that the file is corrupted beyond repair and all data is lost. For those interested in a word of advice: no matter how rock solid FM is 99.99% of the time, there is always a chance something bad can happen—we should all back up everyday. Happy databasing!
Newbies maatwerk Posted December 30, 2005 Newbies Posted December 30, 2005 I also had this problem. Therefore i saved the database as clon (no records). After that i recovered the database. I didn't got a password dialog. But it still kan be that there is some hidden corruption...
