Mac OS X Update 10.4.3 -- any experiences?

Featured Replies

Anyone out there brave enough to try the 10.4.3 update on either a filemaker server or client?

The client seems to work fine with 10.4.3 (FMP and FMPA 8v1) I haven't tried version 7, since I'm not using it anymore. Also, I haven't tried 10.4 with the server (Still on 10.3.9) I'll upgrade the OS to 10.4.x when FMSA v8 is released... Otherwise I'm sticking with "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" for my server.

FYI, I just upgraded a Mac server from OSX 10.4.2 / FMS 7.0v3 to 10.4.3 and 7.0v4. The process went smoothly (Note: be sure to read the ReadME for the FileMaker Server updater!).

This is a server that has been locking up about once a week since I first set it up. I think the lockups are the infamous "lookupd crash bug", and are not FileMaker related. I'm hoping that the 10.4.3 upgrade stops that particular crash, but I won't know for some time, of course.

So far so good, though!

Just 'upgraded' to Mac OS X 10.4.3 and FMS 8 from Mac OS X 10.3.7 and FMS 7.

I say 'upgraded' as the utility to back up the current settings did not launch at all under 10.3.7, so I decided now was the time for a fresh install anyhow.

The main gotcha was the database would not open after upgrading, the server would do the consistency check, then go back to closed.

I found I needed to recover the file, which went from 15.9 MB down to 15.7 MB.

It would have been nice to get an on screen error about failing the consistency check . . .

I was having fairly regular system lockups about every two weeks. I upgraded to 10.4.3 and Server 7.0v4 at the same time. I'm now at 26 days of uptime w/o a crash or lockup. If this holds, I think I may be out of the woods.

I've not yet done security update 2005-009 yet, tho.

Update: Mac OS X (regular) 10.4.3 with FM Server 7.0v4 -- at 39 days without a crash and counting. If you've been having trouble with any of the previous versions of Mac OS or FM Server, i'd suggest you try this combo. Seems rock-solid to me.
