txjcfsr Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 I need to run filemaker scripts for sending emails, making records, etc. at reguarly scheduled intervals in FMSA7. Does anyone know how to do this? I currently do this in FMP6 Unlimited with an applescript that is activated by iDo Script Scheduler. The applescript tells FMP6 Unlimited to activate the script at regularly scheduled times. I am running FMSA7 on Mac OSX 10.3.9 (panther). Thank you.
Reed Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 you can't run those scripts on the server, you need to connect with FMP client and schedule the scripts with that application.
txjcfsr Posted November 8, 2005 Author Posted November 8, 2005 So to understand this correctly, does that mean that I have to open all of the files hosted on the FMSA7 computer, on a different computer via "open remote" and have the applescripts activate the FileMaker scripts on the different computer (the non FMSA7 computer)? If so, does having all of the files open on a separate computer, all of the time, hurt the performance of the FMSA7 computer at all? In effect, this means that I need two computers dedicated to each set of files that I am hosting on a server with FMSA7 on it, so that I can run timed scripts at specified times/days, correct? Thank you.
Reed Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 they don't have to be open all the time, since you can use an applescript to open filemaker and connect to the served files at whatever interval you like. You will need a separate computer though... I just use my G4 at my desk to do all of those things. I have two users logged in (fast user switching) and run the filemaker scripts on one account while I do everything in the other. It doesn't seem to bog down even though I only have a 533MHz G4 (with 1.5 GB RAM though)
txjcfsr Posted November 17, 2005 Author Posted November 17, 2005 Could you possibly post a sample of the applescript for having filemaker open, login etc., from the remote computer into the server computer?
