I don’t know how to go about this so here goes! I need to create some graphs based on the data entered into FMP. I thought about a script to open Excel since both are database but I don’t know how to script Excel from my FMP. How should I go about this? I have some basic coding under my belt so maybe even an external script program? Not familiar with apple script but always willing to learn!

Thanks for your time!

There's a couple ways you could get your data into excel. You could export the found set of records, then open the resulting file with Excel. You could set up an excel worksheet to use you FileMaker file as an external data source; you then refresh your worksheet as needed, having it pull the current data from the FileMaker file. Once you have the data in Excel, you can make your charts with Excel's Chart Wizard.

If you want to do the charts all within FileMaker, check out the xmChart plugin:

i'm an idiot! I just saw that program. I don't know if my school district will want to purchase it but atleast I have a solution. But having something that is not fully automated with one click of a big button would be a nightmare! Thanks for your help!

I'd like to export selected fields from a FM8 database layout into an Excel spreedsheet. I can get the data to export to "Sheet1" but whenever I export to the target file it "rewrites" the sheet.

My goal is to have a second sheet (Sheet2-already in the target file) to automate drawing graphs from the exportd data in Sheet1. Whenever I run the script it erases the second Sheet2 from the file and therefore I can not automate the graph drawing function. Does anyone know how to perform this task?

Thank you.
