How to get login dialogue?

Featured Replies

Hi... I got a problem.. When I put my file on IWP, in the past it will prompt me to log in. But now it don't. After some try out then i reliase it auto signed in as guest. How can I sign in as admin?? or shd i say how to make the dialogue out so i can sign in with my admin account..

Thanks a lot in advance..

Kelvin

Do you have file options set to automatically log in as "..."? By default the admin account doesn not have a password. It's just "Admin" as a user. I'm not sure what you're saying exactly. Can you be more clear?

Disable the Guest Account in the Define Accounts & Privileges area. That will force the dialog to appear. Disabling it in the automatically log-in as area of File Options isn't the controlling element here. BTW this is for FMP 7 and FileMaker Server 7 Advanced only, not for FMP 8.

Hi.. But i wish to launch it in IWP. I need both guest and admin account. Therefore it will be more appropriate to have the login account for my admin at other places to login..

Thanks...

In FMP 7 in which case you will need a screen with two (preferably global) fields--one for the Account name and one for the password. Run a relog script from that screen by attaching a relog script to a button.

FileMaker Pro 8 allows explicit Guest access giving you the option to log in either as a Guest or with an Account. This presents its own set of issues of course.

Hi Steven,

I manage to get the login dialogue by doing edit -> sharing -> instant web publishing, selects specify users by privilege set.

But when i checked guest account under specify, it won't prompt me the dialogue again and i can just access the file(it signed in as guest i guess).. why..?

Thanks a lot..

Checking the Guest Account under File Options really has nothing to do with this process.

In FileMaker Pro 7 if the Guest Account is enabled in the Define Accounts & Privileges area, and the attached Privilege Set has fmiwp enabled, then all access to the file via IWP is by implicit Guest access.

As I noted previously, you can overcome that by directing the IWP user to a layout in the file where he or she can do a relog by script. Since the user never sees the initial challenge, then the user believes this is the initial log-on. You can also include a button that says access as Guest that when clicked simply moves the user to wherever in the file you want him or her to go.

FileMaker Pro 8 works differently. Unless Guest is the only Account with fmiwp privileges, you will be presented with an explicit option to log on as Guest or with credentials.

Files hosted by FileMaker Server Advanced for IWP behave almost the same, with only slight differences.
