delays in page loading

I have a solution which sends notification emails at various stages of a production cycle. I developed it on my home network and have now installed it on a twin-processor XServe running Mac OSX server.

All aspects of the solution work as planned at home with the exception of the email notification part which occasionally will leave a browser waiting on the page that contains the XSL email tags to load. The actions associated with the page that should load are all carried out (a change to a field, a script and the email) and the page will sometimes load after a gap of several minutes.

I've tried different SMTP servers, I've disabled the script, I've switched back to development mode, but nothing has made a difference. The problem seems to occur after a period of inactivity, say three hours or more, but will not occur when the pages are called frequently. I read a tech note on the filemaker site concerning the WPE stopping responding on some twin processor machines - wondered if anyone else had come across anything like this?

Until FMI provides a solution, you should turn the second CPU on your WPE server off. See this post
