i have just purchased an MSI M610 laptop and connected that to my desktop (both XP Home) using WLAN 802.11 B/G

The network works fine both file sharing and internet access.

However I have installed FMP 5 and 6 and they both load up fine but as soon as I try open a new local file or a passworded hosted file the system asks for my password then I get the squiggle cursor then I get an Application Error faulting mode fmcor10.dll - every time. Strangely I can open a non passworded remote hosted file OK

Make sure they are both patched to the latest version (eg, 6.0v4)

At a guess I'd say it's a built-in OS-level firewall problem. FMP cannot open the required port to the server.

Update done but it's not (I think) a networking issue because it does it with no firewall running- with no network protocol set and when trying to create a new local file.

STOP WORRYING! I found it - a nice little monster supplied with the laptop called 'keyhook' it's supposed to be for SiS Compatible SuperVGA Keyboard Daemon - switch it off and all's well - Bill Gates I hate you !
