I could have sworn that I heard somewhere, maybe at DevCon, that with FileMaker 7/8 you could use buttons on a layout while in Preview Mode.

My feeling now is that I am wrong, because my tests have proven me wrong.

Anyone know the actual answer to this?

Buttons won't work in the window that's in preview mode, but you can have a second window open that has the necessary buttons. fmp 7 added the ability to open multiple windows based on the same table.

Since 8 advanced came out, I like to use custom menus attached to my report layouts to change sort order, subsummary part visibility etc.
