A better way to show a new window for editing?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Picture this scenario:

A layout with a portal showing related records. There's a button in each portal row that runs a script to open the record related to the record in the portal. This related record is shown in a new, smaller window in front of the main window and is intended for editing the record in a more detailed view than what's available in the portal.

Here's the issue:

If the record is not committed and the text cursor is still active in a field in the portal, the message "This record cannot be modified in this window because it is already being modified in a different window." is displayed.

What I've done to handle this is as follows:

Freeze Window

Go to Related Record [ From table: "TimeLogs"; Using layout: "TimeLogs_Detail" ]

Commit Records/Requests [ Skip data entry validation; No dialog ]

Go to Related Record [ From table: "TimeLogs"; Using layout: "TimeLogs_Detail" ] [ New window ] //new window is called "Time Log Detail";

Select Window [ Name: "Project Manager"; Current file ] Go to Related Record [ From table: "Projects"; Using layout: "Projects_Detail" ]

Select Window [ Name: "Time Log Detail"; Current file ]

Show/Hide Status Area [ Hide ]

Adjust Window [ Resize to Fit ]

This jumping around between windows accomplishes what I want but it seems really clunky. Can anyone suggest a more elegant way of doing this?

Thanks in advance!

Are you still working on this, I can't seem to reproduce it. I have similar setups and they seem to work fine... I'm sure it's something I'm not understanding.
