Anybody who works with the pdm sql plug-in?

Featured Replies

Hello,

Could you tell me about your experience with this plug-in.

I was surprised when I called this Dutch firm, bit more than a year ago, to hear the man on the phone tell me "oh the plug-in, you really need to do a lot of programming to make it work. Wouldn't you use another solution?"

He was even suggesting not to use filemaker at all.

So I was dissapointed about this reaction and didn't purchase the plug-in.

But now as I'm facing the 'make filemaker and the remote mysql database work together' problem again, I'd like to hear about your experiences. As there seems to be no othe sql plug-in around. Or am I mistaking?

It would be great to have a filemaker 8 plug-in, but if this is not available please tell me about your experience with above mentioned plug-in in other filemaker versions or about other mysql-filemaker plug-ins.

Thank you.

What are you trying to make them do? (The databases I mean)

Hello Zero Tolerence,

The database must be able to:

* login to the remote mysql database ( username and password)

* send query instructions to:

-- retrieve results

-- add records

-- delete records

Michele,

The developer of the plugin is focusing on their new product Servoy, so in a way I believe they may have been attempting you to go in that direction. No worries, they are all wonderful people there and have offered me lots of assistance in getting the mysql connectivity set-up.

If you would like, I can create you a quick mysql database and post you a FMPro file that connects to the mysql database. There would be a few configurations that you would need to make to your machine, but the plugin is great and I will offer this assistance since PDM has also been attentive to my questions and requests.

All the best,

Dino

Dear Dino,

Thank you for your answer.

Still a bit worried about the service they offer.

Didn't realise Servoy is their product too. In the beginning of this week I sent an email because I couldn't download the trial version of Servoy. Haven't had an answer since.

But let's focus on the question.

It would be great to get the mysql database and fmpro file, please do post them.

Is it in fmp8?

Can the plug-in connect to a mysql database on a remote server? Because that's actually what I need.

Your help is dearly appreciated.

Actually, you can do everything you said without the plug-in.

You can do an ODBC IMPORT if you have the data source set up on the machine. You can also do an Execute SQL to add and delete records.

That's the whole point.

I'm running MySQL remotely to run a website, but the data is stored locally in Filemaker because not everything needs to be visible on the remote machine.

So I need to find a way to connect from within filemaker to the remote server and execute mysql and/or retrieve results.

What plugin can I use, can odbc do this?

Both, ODBC and JDBC. ODBC is a lot easier to configure then that of JDBC.

You just need a driver for the database you want to use (MySQL), and you need ODBC access to be enabled by the administrator of the MySQL server.

This company has drivers for MySQL and other DBs
