There has been a lot of posting about bar codes. A lot of suggestions are made but I'm not sure what to use.

What bar code plugin would you advice to create EAN 13 barcodes. Ideally it would work with fmp 6 through fmp 8 cross-platform (and in runtime too).

I'd like to avoid barcode fonts.

Have checked out Brian Dunning 's site but no EAN13 over there.

Can you tell me what to use?

I think you'll probably have to use a font. Take a look at Luc Devroye's excellent barcode resource page for some starting points:

I use Barcode X plugin from peninsula-group.com. It does come with the fonts and you basically create the barcode with these fonts in your layout.

May I ask why you don't want to use barcode fonts?

Apparently peninsula also do a plugin which interacts directly with a barcode printer. So the barcode isn't produced in the layout, but the barcode no is sent directly to the printer, thus making printing a lot faster. But I guess you still need the fonts, even if they are held on the printer. Haven't tried that plugin myself.
