I was under the impression that an auto enter would re-evaluate whenever the fields it refers to are changed... (if the do not replace existing content box was unchecked..)..

i have tried setting the auto enter to both a related field... aswell as a local calculation with no luck for either... the field just remains blank... any suggestions anyone?

Cheers, genx

There is no way to make an autoenter monitor changes in a related table ...but your question could maker more sense if we could investigate it ...chances are that unstored calcfields will serve you better - try to migrate this old template:

thanks but um.... that solutions a tad confusing... i would use an unstored calc but i need this partiuclar field for a relationship... acting as a field in the child table this would pose a difficulty... hence the reason for the question as to whether an unstored calc would cause an auto-enter to update... anyway, thanks soren...

It would... as long as they are pulled by the layout rendering, unstored fields are always tied to a layouts rendering, so if it isn't dependant on a field which is freshend by the layout isn't it going to either change or being given a value.

... so basically you have to refresh the window?... i thought that happened everytime you went to the next record.. only because of the way unstored calcs generally seem to re-evaluate when you're actually viewing them...

... ok i understand what your saying.. i.e. the calc field has to be on the layout so that it calculates... and therefore should update the auto enter.... but it doesnt.. it should logically work ... anyone have any ideas why it wont?

.. i ended up changing my auto enter number to a calc that i didnt know i could store to refer to the unstored calc... this solved my problem... why didnt anyone mention i could do this :P ?.. even though this shouldnt be possible, it seems to work lol

thanks anyway...
