brandie Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 In several different databases, I have a large text field for comments. Occasionally when printing, one of the lines in the comments field will have the first word of the line, then everything else on the line is missing. The next line is fine (prints normally), but there is just blank space for the affected line. Obviously, the data is still in the database. This happens on several printers, and the preview window shows the text normally. The only workaround I have found is that sometimes, slightly adjusting the width of the box in the layout will bring back the text. I don't want to have to change the layout each time this happens though. Any ideas?
Oldfogey Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 (edited) I have had exactly the same problem. Fortunately the field is a global, holding standard text. I think I've fixed it - visiting customer shortly to confirm. I deleted the field from the offending layout and then put it back. So far so good. Update. Worked fine at the customer's even after adding a few extras to the layout below the text field. Edited February 11, 2006 by Guest
Genx Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 .. if it is... either left or right or center align it... or better yet before you do that... bring the text box to the front of the layout using the arrange tools, print, and see if that has any positive effects, if it does, please tell me, because im trying to work out the same problem
Oldfogey Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 (edited) I hadn't thought about its being at the front. Could be why my 'solution' worked - I hope - which was deleting it and replacing it. It was the first field I placed on the layout so wasn't at the front but is now. ALthough none of the other fields overlapped it. Mine is justified. I'm going to add another field and see what happens. I did - no effect. Edited February 13, 2006 by Guest Add result of test.
Genx Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 ... yeh, try sending that field with all the text in it to the back and see what happens..
Oldfogey Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Tried that. It still works fine. I sometimes suspect that making a minor change like deleting and restoring a field on a layout corrects the basic glitch. Doesn't make sense but .... (I had a heap of text fields left-aligned. Two or three lost the LH border. Moved them 2 pixels right and then back. LH border reappeared!)
brandie Posted March 3, 2006 Author Posted March 3, 2006 Hi folks. I thought I had subscribed to this topic and couldn't figure out why no one replied..but I guess I hadn't. Oops. I tried bringing the field to the front of the layout, and unfortunately it didn't work in my case. That stinks, because it would've been a nice solution! I also tried deleting the field and readding it, also no luck. The text was justified, so I changed it to left align and that appears to have done the trick. It's a shame since justified text looks better, but I suppose it's much better to be left aligned and actually be able to see the entire comment. Thanks for your help and sorry about the lack of follow up here.
