Value lists causing FM to crash !

Featured Replies

Is there a size resitriction to value lists ?

I have 2 related files, which when I create a value list from them showing 2 fields, will always (I mean always) cause FileMaker to crash if I try to use the value list in the main file. I am assuming they are too large and File Maker can't handle it.

Assuming this is the problem, is there anyway that you can have a user select an item from a list of say 1000 options without using the value lists as they stand.

Thanks

Are you using Windows or MacOS? If you use Windows, it can be a problem if one field in the value list is a calculated field that is not indexed. Hope this helps.

I had the same or similar problem. The value list had values from another file. I notice that FM crashed when showing a value from a specific register. The value on the second field shown was supposed to be a short description, but instead the user made a big description with several uncommon chars. I don't remember exactly if the problem was the size or some of the chars, but I made the description smaller and deleted strange chars and the problem was solved.
