March 23, 200619 yr Hello all, im not sure if this is the right place, but it seemed better then filemaker server or p2p... i need to acccess my small database from a mac as well as from a windows machine, not at the same time, and only one user; me. Is it safe to store the file on a samba or a webdav share on my fileserver and work with it from there? thanks, overrider
March 28, 200619 yr It's not "safe" however. It's sub-optimal from a performance and integrity perspective. Best methid for your situation is to copy the db file to your local hard disk and run it from there, then at the end of the session copy it back to th shared volumne (and delete the file from the local hard disk). That way you'll have a backup as well. Be very disciplined about making sure there is only one copy of the file, otherwise you'll start losing work (the changes were done in another file). Hosting files in FMP or FMS avoids all this trouble and allows automated backups as well. Hint: I think a 3 user license for FMS comes with FileMaker 8 Advanced.
