Emailing PDFs in Container Fields

The website for FMPRO (as did the salespeople for the company) indicated that I could email container fields using FMPRO 8.

OK, so they have added the email to the menu bar rather than having to script it - helpful yes, but how do I email the pdf file contained in the container field? I hope the answer isn't that it has to be saved in a file on the desktop or something to that effect.

Are the files in the container embedded or referenced?
