I'm going nuts! I saw once in a Mac magazine that you can use external value lists in FM3. It mentioned that the reason all my value lists are named "x" is because there are more than allowed (100 is the max, I think). I can't find any info on it anymore and I have long since thrown out the magazine (by accident, I assure you - that was a valuable article to me). I've even tried searching the TIL at FileMaker.com.

Nope, cannot use external value lists in FMP3. But you can create a value list that is based on a field from another file, which is functionally about the same thing.
