I have a client with a FMP6db which has a calculated field, Session_Numeric_ID, which produces a number based on another field with a text session title for a conference registration process.

In V8 you can specify do not recalculate, or do recalculate, but in V6 I don't see if/where that option exists. It seems set to not recalcualte which is not good if the user revises the session title, the numeric id is not being re-set.

Any thoughts are welcome. I have suggested that they upgrade to V8.

Sounds like you are using an auto-enter calculation. FileMaker 7 and 8 have the option to continuously auto-enter (much like a regular calculation field) by unchecking the "do not replace existing value (if any)" option. This check box is not available in FileMaker 6. My advice is to use a standard calculation field rather than an auto-enter calculation.
