May 18, 200619 yr Newbies Using php + ODBC. I have a table where each record has a unique id, maintained by filemaker, and i need to know the unique id of the record i just inserted later on the page. Is there an equivalent to MySQL's LAST_INSERT_ID() using filemaker + ODBC? I couldn't find anything on their site. here's a description of LAST_INSERT_ID: http://www.mysqlfreaks.com/statements/90.php As a workaround i suppose could calculat e my own unique id, and not have filemaker do it.
June 28, 200619 yr There is no such feature unfortunately. Please submit feature request FM Featuer Suggestion As a workaround i suppose could calculate my own unique id, and not have filemaker do it. You can do this only when no one creates new record using FileMaker client (and it's quite rare situation I think). What I usually do is to use two fields. One for 'primary_key' which is assigned by FM and the other for 'odbc_key'. On insertion I set some calculated unique key (combination of timestamp, ip address, GUID, etc.) as 'odbc_key'. Then I select newly created row using the 'odbc_key' to get assigned 'primary_key'. Hope this helps.
