Newbies nektir Posted May 24, 2006 Newbies Posted May 24, 2006 (i'm a filemaker newbie) I have a filemaker 7 database right now and I want to share it with 2 other computers on my network. Can I purchase filemaker 8 for those 2 computers and access/save changes to the filemaker 7 database without any problems? or would it be better to upgrade and have all 3 computers running filemaker8?
stanley Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Nektir: FileMaker 7 and 8 both use the same file type (.fp7) and can interact freely. The only thing to look out for is that any development done in FileMaker 8 using new FMP8 techniques (tool tips, tabs, etc.) will not work on the FMP7 client, and in the case of tabs, will produce strange results. If you are going to keep using FMP7, do your development on that box. -Stanley
