I have separated into a UI and Data File, and it works great! One of the goals is to permit upgrading my solution without my users having to import data.

So let's say I need to add a field to the DB. I can't add it to the UI.

How do I add it to the Data file without my user losing his data?

Does this also work with a stand-alone solution?

The separation of interface and data is not perfect in FileMaker 7 and 8. While you can easily add a layout or button to your interface file without updating the data file, some additions, like a field, require you to update the data file.
