How can I replace the contents of a value list with a calculated result?

It seems that it's not possible to replace the content of a field with a value list by a calculated result. I have two fields in my solution called "Status" and "Commercial status". My Commercial status field has value list that reflect the overall status of the job (in progress, to invoice and finished). I would like to have these values changed by a calculation based on the status field. My calculation is like the

Case(num_jobs::totalprint<"1";"To invoice";"In progress")

But nothing happens! The calculation runs ok when i change the field to an edit box.

Anyone an idea why ?
