Jodin Posted August 16, 2001 Posted August 16, 2001 we have a need to lock up our solution short of using dongles. we need to expire the passwords every year and also have a time-bomb on our installer so that the solution is installed x number of days after it was purchased. if something like this already exists i'd love to purchase it and connect it to our solution. if not i would like to have someone else bid on building the functionality into our existing solution. thanks, jodin ravia [email protected]
Jodin Posted June 12, 2002 Author Posted June 12, 2002 update: we have used and are extremely happy with SPI-Lockpoint from Braddockstreet software. it is a software dongle with a telephone/internet unlock feature that does exactly what we needed. i see that a new rev of the product is coming out and is now called InstallFactory. it looks like it adds a ton of great installer features and i can't wait to update our solutions with it. links (i'm not affiliated, just a happy customer) http://www.braddockstreet.com http://www.installfactory.com
bbaliner Posted June 24, 2002 Posted June 24, 2002 Hi Jodin, When you say "lock up" the solution, do you mean disallow access, or hide the server? What is it you use SPI-Lockpoint for? BB
Jodin Posted July 19, 2002 Author Posted July 19, 2002 SPI-LockPoint has been renamed InstallFactory (i believe) and it in-effect is a software dongle for FMPro. It's installer drops a file on the hard drive that the LockPoint plug-in checks through standard external functions. It can return days left on the dongle file, or if the dongle file has been modified (including moved to a new machine) it will let you know, allowing you to script your way out of this 'hacked' solution. we have been very happy with it, giving us all the features of a time-senstive dongle without the hassle of the hardware hanging off the back. and the new installer can be used to install your entire solution. check it out at http://www.installfactory.com
