Printing Subtotal under a column

I am working on a student management set of files for my use in my classroom. I have figured out how to generate a total for the number of students in any given group by using a Counter field containing the number 1 and then a Summary field which totals the Counter field. I can generate a sheet which lists the students and gives me the total students in the group on a single sheet of paper.

What I really want to do is generate a three or four column list of students with the subtotal underneath the list of names. I have the report set up with the subtotal field in the sub summary part of the report, but the field containing the number of students in the group appears at the top of the next column.

How do I get it to appear underneath the names.

Thanks

Rick
