Cross Platform Issues

I have been using a Version 6 Filemaker Pro solution which I developed with an external developer in 2003. The solution is very complex, requiring the file limit of 50 files and hundreds of scripts.

We developed the solution on a Mac platform, and subsequently operated it successfully on a mixed platform (Mac Server, PC & Mac clients).

I am now commercialising the product, which required me to upgrade to Filemaker 8. I have also switched to PC (XP Pro) and operate a small mixed network of PC's and Macs.

All of the conversion work from V6 to V8 has been done on the PC, where after around 100 hours of debugging, it now works perfectly on the PC.

I have tested the solution on a Mac, and it fails at the following points -

1. The main menu screen which has multiple buttons for running opening scripts for the various support files, opens the files but does not present the active window of that file to the user - it simply stays on the main menu. All of the Opening scripts have had the code altered to include "Select Window [Name: "(window name)"]

2. When trying to bring the opened file to the front, using Window / Show Window on the Mac, the background file selected results in a random file selection coming forward; that is any one of the solution support files may appear.

3. Once the support file is presented, the scripts to allow a new record to be generated are barred from the user. These scripts are simple scripts which point to the correct layout, create a new record and go to the first field.

I am in the midst of installing my first commercial sale of this solution to a Mac based business, and need urgent help with this cross platform dilemma. I have checked the code over and over, but cannot see any fault with the solution, which works perfectly on a PC.

Can anyone offer some guidance to what the Mac problem might be?

Please post in the correct forum, Upgrading and Migration. This is a forum for XML (eXtensible Markup Language) and XSLT (eXtensible Stylesheet Language Transformations) related questions.

You may consider MetaDataMagic from NewMillenium, which is a perfect tool for analysis of FM6 solutions to be migrated to FM7 or FM8. It also analyses your scripts and gives hints where there might be issues with the new window model in converted solutions. Having used this tool, you would have saved a large percentage of your debugging time.
