How to create value list and use ID's as values, but display actual names in the list...??

Featured Replies

I need to create a value list that holds a name and an ID. The value list is to be attached to a drop down menu and I'd like only the names to show up in this drop down, but when selected I'd like the ID to be actual value that gets passed.

I'm working with eBay store categories, so for example, category ID 5452 = Canon. I'd like the name Canon to show up in the list in Filemaker, but the ID 5452 to be passed as it's value.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've got a table called eBayStoreCategories and then I've created a value list that uses the fields in this table.

Because FM says that it only uses the first field you choose to store data I choose the ID field first, and then I select to also show values from second field and select the name.

This works kind of how I want...it puts only the ID in the field for the value, but when you click the drop down it's REALLy ugly because it puts the ID in front of the name just seperated with a space:

203413 Apple - Mac

3 BarCode & POS Supplies

201586 Blank Media

.

.

etc.

There are a bunch of categories that need to go here and with it displaying like that it's hard to find what you're looking for sometimes.
