I think I am going crazy.

I opened files from my v6 solution with v8, let 8 do the file translation. Then 8 wanted passwords for files that never had passwords.

These are very old solutions so I wondered if I had 'Try PW' set and just forgot about it. Nope. And when I look at the passwords in 6, there are none assigned to the files.

I am not making this up :P-)

Is this an issue that anyone ever heard of- files updated to v8 from v6 suddenly requiring a pw- or is this a case of operator error?

I am totally flummoxed by this.

FM7 and FM8 now require at least one Full Access account. During conversion, files from previous versions will get an account called "Admin" with a blank password.
