Zero Tolerence Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Anyone know for sure if the Web Viewer works with runtimes? I won't assume anymore after the "Save as PDF" fiasco. Thanks for any info.
Fenton Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Yes it does. It's a FileMaker & OS cooperation. The PDF "fiasco" was due to Adobe's unwillingness to let FileMaker runtimes create multiple apps which could create PDFs, which could be distributed freely, as they could see no way for them to get paid something for each. Like that would really happen in massive numbers, not.
Genx Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 ...Otherwise there wouldn't be much point in buying 8.5 advanced - its the only new feature available - besides PDF isn't available because it cost FM money to purchase each time they include in an app - hence we can't use in run times. The web viewer was written by them, so there's no 3rd party involved - no additional payments, so they don't really care. Besides, in terms of run times and pdf's you can cheat. There's plenty of free .dll's out there that deal with everything from zipping to pdf's to ftp upload - all you have to do is work out how to manipulate them with VBScript or AppleScript (i'd assume thats VBScript's equiv on mac) from FM.
