Cannot upgrade to Server 8.0v4

Featured Replies

Hi there

I am having some trouble installing the Server 8.0v4 upgrade on a clients xServe. When the installer is run, it 'searches' for ever. I force quit after an hour of waiting.

Am I ok to use 8.0v2, and does anyone have any advice on how I can install this update?

OK, I've sorted it out now. I hadn't stopped all the FMServer processes. Had to force quit them in Activity Monitor.

Solved!

It is not necessary as a general rule to forece quit or kill daemons in the Activity Monitor.

Useful Terminal Commands:

fmserver_helperd start

fmserver_helperd stop

fmserverd start

fmserverd stop

sudo SystemStarter start "FileMaker Web Publishing"

sudo SystemStarter stop "FileMaker Web Publishing"

sudo SystemStarter restart "FileMaker Web Publishing"

Thanks for the advice Steven

Excuse my ignorance, but how is using these terminal commands any different from using Activity Monitor? I had to tried to stop the services first, but this didn't work, hence the need to force quit them. Are the terminal commands you mention any different to that?

Thanks

I would avoid killing running daemons unless it is absolutely necessary. Try stopping them through the Terminal or the SAT Tool first.
