FM Server Admin 7/8 cannot connect from external network (firewall setup correctly)

Hi Everyone,

I've had this problem with both FM Server 7 and FM Server 8. Using the FM Server Admin tool to connect from within the network is fine. However, connecting from anywhere else does not work.

The firewall is set up correctly, allowing communication from anywhere to ports 5003, 50003, and 50006.

Connecting to a hosted database from a external network (using Filemaker Developer 8 and Filemaker Developer 7) works without issues.

I'm using MacOS X Server 10.4.7.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Presumably you are using NAT.

By intent and by design the SAT Tool does not work through a firewall with NAT. VPN into the inside of the network, then enter the internal IP address of the server.

That worked.

I had used that technique with FMS 7, but it hadn't worked after our recent upgrade to FMS 8.

I just tried it again after reading your post, however, and everything seems to be working fine now (there have been one or two server restarts since the upgrade...perhaps one of them corrected the problem).

Excellent.

[color:red]FileMaker Server and all its related services should always be stopped before applying aby updates. And the CPU should be rebooted thereafter. As a general rule, it's a good idea to reboot about once a week.
