Newbies dave's not here Posted August 24, 2006 Newbies Posted August 24, 2006 I'm kinda new at Filemaker, so appologies in advance if this is a dumb question. I have a database (fmp 8.5) which works fine in filemaker. However, when I publish it on the web, the buttons don't work. I'm not doing anything complicated, just doing simple stuff like 'new record.' Any ideas on what is going on?
T-Square Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Make sure that all the actions or scripts on the layout are using script steps that are "Web Compatible". If any incompatible steps are used, the buttons won't react at all. There is a checkbox on the developer screens for Web Compatibility; when checked, many steps will grey out, and you shouldn't use those steps on layouts used on IWP. David
Newbies dave's not here Posted August 28, 2006 Author Newbies Posted August 28, 2006 I checked that. I'm just doing simple things like: create new record, find mode, next/previous record,go to layout. Do I need to do anything special to prep the database in general (permissions, etc) for it to work on the web?
Newbies dave's not here Posted September 1, 2006 Author Newbies Posted September 1, 2006 I've fixed the issue; sort of. I have some invisible buttons on top of a graphic element. I had placed the text on top of the invisible button and only the part of the button not under the text area worked. I brought the invisible button to the top, and everything works. It works that is OMM (mac running FMP 8.5). It is still not working on the server Win XP running FMP Server. Any idea why something as simple as Create New Record won't work on the web?
T-Square Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Ah, the old invisible button underneath the visible widget. I've never understood why that is used (someone did explain it to me, but I didn't get it). There are discussions about the ordering of items on IWP layouts. You might want to search for them. As for the New Record Command: I don't see why you're having trouble. The New record command works under IWP. So, there's something else that is causing your problem. You can test this by putting up a simple layout with a New Record button. It works for me. You say it works on a Mac; is there something on your Windows server that is configured differently? Are your ports different? What actually happens when you open the file from a Windows server? Do you get anything? What do you get? David
Newbies dave's not here Posted September 7, 2006 Author Newbies Posted September 7, 2006 Well, I've discovered what is going on. The invisible button works fine on Mac, but not on Win. If the button is not invisible, it will work. I'm betting even a 1% (which should not be noticable) should work fine cross-platform. I haven't checked to see if the issue runs both ways. As for why use an invisible button, it's to control the highlight area of odd shaped buttons. A graphic rounded button will show square corners.
Newbies Rover 9 Posted September 7, 2006 Newbies Posted September 7, 2006 Personally, I was using invisible buttons on top of my graphic images. I set up my layouts in photoshop (to avoid all the render issues of fonts, drop shadows... etc), then copied that to filemaker. The invisible buttons allowed me to do that ... until I hit this stinkin' pc/windows issue. I'm REALLY disappointed.
