Hi Guys,

Is there a way to display a message when you attempt to close the LAST window of your filemaker solution?

Im trying to prevent closing my solution down accidently.

Cheers

I have the same problem. My shut down script asks if I want to backup my files. The dialog has 3 buttons "Yes|No|Cancel." Yes and No work fine, but clicking Cancel does not stop the shutdown of the application. Is there a way to accomplish this? Can you stop FM from shutting down after you click the "X" on the top right?

Using a Custom Menu Set you can replace the normal Close command with your script (got this idea from Jimmy Jones). They could still Quit however. I don't think you have access to replace the Quit command.

Thanks for the quick response. I still have not been able to get my head around creating Custom Menus. That's probably because I haven't found a need for it yet, but it sounds like a very neat solution.

I guess it's a Windows/Apple thing rather than an FM thing. You would think they would give you a way of canceling a close request.

No, it's the same on a Mac. Unless you override the Close command, the file is going to close.

A lot of people (including myself) have a bit of trouble with the interface of the Custom Menus. But after reading the instructions (good idea in this case) and using it you'll see that it is well-done. It's just a bit different from most other FileMaker interfaces; more crammed into it, less intuitive flow. It's a good idea to experiment on an example file first, just in case. But you can never alter the built-in default FileMaker menus anyway.

(P.S. I would always leave Close as one of the options in the dialog, in the script. I would not want to stop people from being able to close the file.)
