Lucky Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Hi I will be looking at upgrading my FMS Mac soon and was looking at a Mac Pro or the soon to be released Intel Xserve. Has anyone had any problems using a Mac Pro to host there FMS DB and if so should I stick to a G5 Tower or Xserve.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 This is a difficult question to answer, especially since there are no field results with the Intel Xserve as of yet. The older Xserves have had some issues with dual processors. Also there is some question about their hard drives, though that can be addressed. Generally speaking you want the best hard drive subsystem you can get, and you also want at least 2 GB of RAM for FileMaker Server. If you're running FileMaker Server Advanced with the all on one configuration, you may want 4 GB of RAM if you're expecting significant IWP activity. When the Intel Xserves come out, wait about 30m days before purchasing one to see if any issues surface and are reported in the usual venues. Steven
