When I print to not predefined printing, the FM 8.5 always prints on the predefined one. (in Win XP)

In FM 6.0 there was no problems! [color:red]Why???

I need to change printer!

Not only predefined!

It sounds like you are trying to restore a printer with the Print Setup script step? Is this correct? This didn't work in FileMaker 3, 4, 5, 5.5, 6, 7, 8 or 8.5. Even if it appeared to work in version 6, which I've had many people try to convince me, it really didn't. To remember a default printer you will need a plug-in or some other third party product.

I haven't used a printer changing plug-in before so I can't recommend but there are many to choose from. I'm sure someone will recommend one they like.

John,

I'm glad I dropped in on this thread; your response addresses my recent post "Print script step; printer gets changed".

As I wrote in my post, after setting the Print and Print setup scripts to a printer and settings of choice, then printing (in another operation unrelated to the script) to another printer, and then checking my scripts, when checking my Print Setup script, I see that the printer is switched back (I see the printer change on screen briefly), correctly, to the printer originally specified in Print Setup, yet the Print script step does not revert as I expected it would.

Based on the FM Help system, I believe that a printer and its settings should indeed be remembered:

"Print Setup script step

Select Specify page setup or click Specify to open the Print Setup dialog box and choose page setup options that are stored with the script step"

"Print script step

You can store print options with the script step..."

Mark and/or anyone else: based on what Help says, is it simply the case that the Print script set does not save the printer and settings, as Help says it does?

Ken
