Change from data entry to read only

I have layout for data entry and a "commit" button that details the data via script-- is there a way to change the access to the record from data entry to read-only (by adding to the "commit" script, for example), so that no additional changes to the record can be made once the "commit" button is used?

I explored the option of "install menu set" elsewhere in this forum, but I did not find what I was looking for.
