Lock a record

Is there anyway to lock a record? I would like to be able to make a specific record uneditable given a setting in a field.

For example: I have a checkbox field called "lock record" set to a boolean value and if it is set to yes, I don't want the rest of the fields on the specific record to be edited.

Is this possible?
