I have one field for client name where every key I enter, types in a weird symbol. same thing, can I do anything? thanks.

Enter Layout Mode, check your font on that field.

And / or attach a screen shot if it's still not working.

Seems to be gone, horray, I'll keep you posted if issue returns. any theories? pretty annoying while it was there.
